Banking and brokerage apps are the ones where an outage costs something measurable. A social network being unreachable is an annoyance, while a trading platform that is down during market hours locks people out of positions they cannot manage, and a payments app that fails at a till leaves someone unable to pay.
They are also the hardest class to check from outside. The marketing homepage almost always stays up, because it runs nowhere near the systems that move money. A green reading on a bank's front page proves the brochure is online and nothing more, which is why the vendor's own component-level status page matters more here than anywhere else.
Common questions about banking and finance apps
An availability incident does not move balances. Deposits and transfers in flight settle once the service recovers, and regulated institutions reconcile afterwards. The cost of an outage is access, not funds.
The public website is separate infrastructure from the account systems behind login. It is a marketing site, and it stays up through incidents that make accounts unreachable, which is why it is a poor place to judge whether a bank is working.
