Retail sites are the most heavily cached pages on the internet, which makes them the most misleading to check. The homepage and product pages are served from an edge network close to you, so they load fine while the systems that matter, the cart, payment authorisation and inventory, are somewhere else entirely and may be down.
That gap is why a shopping outage usually reveals itself at checkout rather than on arrival. Browsing works, adding to the basket works, and the failure arrives at the moment money is involved.

Common questions about shopping sites
The storefront is cached at the edge and the checkout is not. Payment authorisation, inventory and fraud checks run on separate systems, any of which can fail while the pages you were browsing keep serving from cache.
Not immediately. Authorisations that appear to fail sometimes settle anyway, and retrying is how one order becomes two. Check your order history or your card statement before submitting again.
