A streaming service is a catalogue, a playback pipeline and a billing system, and only one of them has to fail for the evening to be ruined. The site loading proves the front door is open. It says nothing about whether the video will start.

Most of what people call an outage here is narrower than it looks. Playback failing on one device while another works points at the app, not the service. A single title refusing to play usually means a rights or encoding issue with that title. A genuine platform-wide incident takes down sign-in or playback for everyone at once, and those are rarer than the complaints suggest.

Common questions about streaming services

They are different clients built by different teams against the same backend, and living-room apps update on their own schedule. A broken release on one platform is far more common than the service itself failing.
