Social Status
Everything is up.
Consumer apps have the widest audience and the least useful status reporting, since most of these companies publish little or nothing machine-readable. That is exactly why an independent check has value here: for several of these services there is no official page to consult at all, and the alternative is guessing from other people's complaints.
Features fail one at a time. Feeds stop refreshing while messaging works, uploads stall at processing while browsing is fine, or one region loses video playback while everywhere else is unaffected. Aggressive caching means the app also keeps showing previously loaded content, so the first sign is usually that nothing new appears rather than an error.
Some of these platforms block automated requests, and where that happens we report unverifiable rather than pretending a block is an outage. Where a service publishes no machine-readable status at all, our own check is the only signal on the page, and it is limited to one endpoint from one location.
Common questions about social apps
Force-close and reopen it, then toggle between wifi and mobile data, since these apps fail over between networks poorly and a half-open connection is a common cause. If content still will not refresh on a second network, it is more likely the service. Cached content continuing to display is normal and does not mean things are working.
Consumer platforms roll out changes and serve traffic regionally, so an incident frequently affects only some regions, some app versions, or some accounts. Partial outages are the norm rather than the exception, which is why reports and an external check can honestly disagree.
Several of these services deliberately block automated requests. When ours is blocked, a failed request tells us nothing about whether the app works, so we say unverifiable instead of reporting an outage we cannot substantiate.
