Security tools sit between you and everything else you use, which makes their outages easy to misread. When a password manager cannot reach its sync service or a VPN drops its tunnel, the failure surfaces as the website you were trying to open, not as the tool itself.
The saving grace is that most of them keep working offline. A vault already unlocked on your machine still opens, and cached credentials still fill. What breaks during an outage is syncing a new item, signing in on a second device, or sharing with a team.

Common questions about security tools
An availability incident is not a breach. It means the service cannot be reached, which is a different failure from data being exposed. Vendors report the two separately, and a status page showing degraded performance is not a security disclosure.
Every request travels through the VPN, so a failed tunnel returns connection errors that appear to come from the site. Disconnecting the VPN for one request is the fastest way to tell the two apart.
